Roadmap

What Nectenda does today, what is being built, and what is being weighed. Nothing here is a commitment and the order changes.

There are no dates on this page on purpose. A date is a promise, and the only honest thing a two-person roadmap can promise is the order it is thinking in. What has shipped carries the version it shipped in instead, which links to the changelog that says so.

Shipped

In the plugin you can install today, newest release first.

Kept copies, inside Obsidian 0.6.0
Every conflict copy and backup Nectenda keeps can be viewed, compared with the file, restored or deleted from Obsidian itself, under Settings → Nectenda → Advanced. Nothing it sets aside is hidden in a folder you have to go looking for.
Links that work under any folder name 0.6.0
A link or embedded image that names a shared folder by another member's name for it opens the right note and shows the right image. After you share a folder, Nectenda offers to switch Obsidian to relative links, so new links work in every vault.
Notes in canvas cards, live 0.5.2
A note edited inside a canvas card syncs as you type, with collaborators' cursors, as it does in the note's own pane. On a shared canvas you also see the edge a collaborator has selected and the connection they are drawing.
Kanban in bases 0.5.1
The kanban view Obsidian 1.14 adds to bases, shared. Cards moved between lanes merge, and so do lanes added, hidden or moved in two vaults at once, and the board shows which card each collaborator is on. Card moves have merged since 0.4.0; lanes merge from 0.5.1.
Live Excalidraw drawings 0.5.0
Several people on the same Excalidraw drawing. A change in one vault appears in the others' open drawing within moments, merged shape by shape, with each person's pointer and selection on the canvas. When two people change one shape's text or style at once, the change that loses is kept beside it, labelled with who made it. Images in a drawing are attachments, so they sync on plans with attachment storage. Everyone sharing a drawing needs 0.5.0 or later.
Live Kanban boards 0.5.0
Boards made with the community Kanban plugin update live for everyone, keep a card you are editing safe while others change the board, and show who is on it and which card they are editing.
Bases that merge 0.4.0
Two people changing different filters, formulas or views of one base both keep their changes instead of one getting a conflict copy, and a shared base shows who else has it open and which row, cell or card they are on. Everyone sharing a base needs 0.4.0 or later.
Properties that merge 0.4.0
A note's properties sync property by property rather than as text, so two people editing them at once keep valid properties, and a value that loses is kept as a conflict copy. The Properties panel shows which property a collaborator is editing.
Canvas collaboration 0.3.0
Several people on the same canvas. Moves and edits to different cards merge instead of making a conflict copy, and an open canvas shows other people's pointers, typing and changes as they happen. Everyone sharing a canvas needs 0.3.0 or later, and it has not been run on a phone.
Jump to a collaborator 0.3.0
Click a person's circle in the header to go to them: to their cursor in a note, or on a canvas to their pointer or the card they are typing in.
Invite to a folder in one step 0.3.0
Invite someone by email from a folder's right-click menu. Your vault shares the folder's key with them automatically, and refuses if their key has changed since you last shared with them.
Fingerprints you have compared 0.3.0
The people list shows whether you have compared each collaborator's key fingerprint, lets you mark one as compared, and lists invitations still pending.
Share link control 0.3.0
Owners and admins can turn their organisation's share link off, or replace it. The old link stops working at once.
Starting over when everything is lost 0.3.0
Lost both your passphrase and your recovery key? Start again with a new, empty account under the same email address. The reset waits seven days, and any device still signed in can cancel it.
Status where you want it 0.3.0
Nectenda's status in each note's header, the ribbon or, on desktop, the status bar, and settings arranged around this vault's folders and what has been shared with you.
Encrypted presence 0.2.1
Collaborators' names, colours and cursor positions are end-to-end encrypted too, so the server cannot see where in a note anyone is working.
Collaborators' pointers 0.2.1
Mouse pointers labelled with each person's name, and an indicator at the edge of the view when they are off-screen. You can stop sharing yours, or hide theirs.
Sync status on every note 0.2.1
An icon on each shared note says whether the server has all of your changes, with marks in the file explorer and an inspector that compares the file on disk with the synced document.
Real-time collaborative editing 0.1.5
Several people in the same note at once, with live cursors, name labels, selection tints and a count of who is present.
Offline editing that merges 0.1.5
Keep writing with no connection. Changes merge on reconnect rather than overwriting.
Conflict copies and first-sync backups 0.1.5
Where two versions genuinely conflict, both are kept side by side, and the first sync of a folder backs up what was already there. Nothing you wrote is discarded silently.
Shared folders 0.1.5
Share any folder in your vault. Creates, renames and deletes propagate to everyone in it.
Attachments 0.1.5
Images and other binaries sync alongside the text, sealed the same way. Paid plans only; text sync is free on every plan.
End-to-end encryption 0.1.5
Notes, attachments, filenames and folder names are encrypted on your device. The server relays ciphertext it has no key for.
Key fingerprints you can compare 0.1.5
Every member has a fingerprint you can check against them off-server, the same idea as Signal safety numbers.
A recovery key 0.1.5
A key to write down when you set your passphrase, so forgetting the passphrase does not lock you out of your own notes.
Organisations, invitations and seats 0.1.5
Invite people by email, manage who is in which folder, and see which invitations are outstanding.
Device management 0.1.5
See every device signed in to your account and sign any of them out remotely.
Sign in how you already do 0.1.5
Email code, passkeys including cross-device, or Google, Apple and Microsoft.
Buying a plan inside Obsidian 0.1.5
Plans are bought in the plugin rather than on this site, because the keys that encrypt a vault are derived on your device from a passphrase that never reaches us.
Desktop and Android 0.1.5
Both are tested. iOS should work — it is the same JavaScript — but it has not been tested on a device, so it is not claimed.

Considering

Weighed, not scheduled, and some of it may never be built. Several of these are things other tools already do.

A public feedback board
Somewhere to post and vote on what gets built next, run on our own servers rather than a third party.
Read-only membership
Harder than it sounds, and worth saying why: we cannot enforce read-only on the server, because the server cannot read the document to know what changed. The same property that keeps your notes private is the one that makes this expensive.
Comments and edit history
Discussion beside a note, and a record of what changed when.
Single sign-on and roles
SAML or OIDC against your own identity provider, and finer control over who can do what.
Self-hosting
Running the server yourself, so the metadata stays yours too. Designed, deliberately after the hosted service rather than before it.

Something missing?

There is no public board yet, so requests go to a person. Say what you are trying to do rather than which feature you want — it is more useful, and it occasionally turns out there is already a way.
